Court

I volunteer for Child Protective Services. Last week we had to go to court. So there we were, in court, which is supposed to be a solemn, quiet place. But a mom and her six month old baby didn't seem to think so. The mom put her baby on the floor and started cooing and talking to her in a very loud, sing-songy voice. The baby laughed and gurgled. The mom continued to talk to her baby in that sing-songy voice of hers - Come to Mama! Come to Mama! All heads turned to the back of the court to watch this loud, obnoxious display. Never mind that the judge was trying to listen to a final hearing that would determine whether a parent's rights were terminated or not. The judge stopped the hearing to reprimand her. And what did the mom have to say in answer to her actions? "My bad." She proceeded to take her child back to her chair where she continued to talk and coo to the child. The bailiff went over to her and said - Shut up or get out. Amen to that! But did our mom listen? No, she did not. The judge had to reprimand her yet again and I guess finally she got it because she took the baby out in the hall. Perhaps she was just trying to show the judge what a good parent she is or she is just as dumb as dumb can be. I give her a 6.
